Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Holds Strategic Talks with Chinese Vice President in Beijing

The statement issued by Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Sheikh Jarrah conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and Vice President Han Zheng. He further passed on their wishes for continued progress and prosperity for the Chinese government and its people. The discussions centered on the longstanding historic relations between the two countries and methods to strengthen their strategic partnership in pursuit of shared interests.

The two officials also exchanged perspectives on the latest regional and international developments along with issues of mutual concern, the ministry statement added. This meeting builds on diplomatic relations established on March 22, 1971, when Kuwait became the first Gulf country to recognize the People’s Republic of China, according to records from the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait. The ties have since expanded to include a strategic partnership formalized in 2018.

The Chinese Embassy in Kuwait stated in March 2026 that China remained Kuwait’s largest trading partner for the 11th consecutive year, with the bilateral trade volume attaining 18.58 billion U.S. dollars in 2025. A Middle East Institute publication described how Kuwait has increasingly looked eastward to diversify partnerships, including through revised economic and technical cooperation pacts first inked in 1977. These foundations have enabled deeper integration under initiatives that align with both nations’ long-term development goals.

During the Beijing visit, the conversations highlighted potential for greater collaboration across economic, investment and technological fields. The ministry indicated that both sides expressed commitment to advancing their common objectives through enhanced coordination. Such engagements reflect the mature bilateral framework that has endured for over five decades.

The Observatory of Economic Complexity placed Kuwait’s exports to China at 149 million dollars in the period between June 2025 and June 2026, down from 1.14 billion dollars a year earlier. The trade database tracks commodity flows between the two countries on a monthly basis. This information provides context for the ongoing efforts to broaden the partnership beyond traditional energy sales.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere focused on mutual benefits. Kuwait’s early diplomatic move in 1971 laid the groundwork for what has grown into multifaceted cooperation, the embassy records confirm. The latest talks continue a tradition of regular consultations between the leaderships of both countries on matters affecting regional stability and global affairs.

  • Kuwait Public Authority for Manpower Releases Advisory on Employment Contract Termination Rules

Kuwait Public Authority for Manpower Releases Advisory on Employment Contract Termination Rules

The Public Authority for Manpower advisory reported Monday by Arab Times lists several situations in which an employment contract ends automatically by operation of law. These include the death of the worker, a proven medical inability to perform job duties, exhaustion of sick leave, permanent closure of the establishment or a final court judgment declaring the employer bankrupt. PAM encouraged both workers and employers to familiarize themselves with these provisions. Such awareness can reduce disputes in a labor market that depends heavily on clear regulatory guidance.

According to the advisory, workers may terminate their employment contracts without prior notice while retaining end-of-service benefits in cases of employer breach of contract or the Labour Law, physical assault by the employer or representative, or serious threats to the worker’s safety or health, provided legal requirements are met. The authority noted that documentation of such incidents supports any subsequent proceedings. Workers retain full rights to pursue these options when conditions arise. The framework protects employee interests while maintaining procedural integrity.

Employers hold corresponding rights to terminate service without notice in serious cases permitted under the Labour Law, the advisory indicated, while indefinite-term contracts generally require advance notice except in specified grave situations. Employees believe a dismissal is unjustified may challenge it through designated channels. This mechanism provides balance between operational needs and individual protections. PAM referenced the importance of following exact procedures in every instance.

The advisory specifically cited Articles 41, 44, 46, 48, 49 and 50 of Kuwait’s Labour Law as governing the range of termination circumstances and related obligations. These articles establish the legal foundation for calculating dues, issuing certificates and handling disputes. PAM reminded all parties that adherence prevents unnecessary litigation and ensures proper settlement of accounts. The guidance forms part of broader educational initiatives on workforce regulations.

Central Statistical Bureau figures show household workers numbered approximately 784,000 at the end of the first quarter of 2026, accounting for over 25 percent of the expatriate labor force, while Kuwaiti workers comprised about 14 percent of the total.[[1]](https://kuwaittimes.com/article/48524/kuwait/other-news/household-workers-account-for-26-of-kuwait-expat-labor-force/) This composition underscores the advisory’s relevance across a workforce where non-nationals fill most private-sector roles. The data highlights why transparent termination rules matter for stability in multiple industries. PAM’s communication targets both employers and foreign employees who form the majority of those affected by contract endings.

PAM urged both employers and workers to understand their legal rights and obligations. «Termination of the employment contract has causes and procedures,» the advisory emphasized, noting that awareness of the law helps protect the rights of both parties. The Labour Law further stipulates notice periods of three months for monthly-salaried staff and one month for others on indefinite contracts, with compensation due for noncompliance, according to regulatory summaries. These elements combine to promote equitable outcomes when separations occur.

  • Mumbai Food Safety Commissioner Suspends Permits at Chain Outlets in Hygiene Crackdown

Mumbai Food Safety Commissioner Suspends Permits at Chain Outlets in Hygiene Crackdown

Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has led an aggressive campaign that includes more than 3,000 inspections across Mumbai eateries since he assumed the post in May. The effort has produced suspensions of food permits at four Domino’s outlets and one Pizza Hut restaurant in recent weeks, along with actions targeting hotels, restaurants and cricket clubs. Mundhe intensified the drive after a Mumbai judge questioned whether the department focused solely on private businesses and inquired about court canteens, prompting teams to inspect those facilities within hours and shut down several that lacked licenses.

The commissioner’s office has distributed photographs from the inspections that document cockroaches, rats, stained walls and expired products, images that have circulated widely on social media. Government data show food inspectors have tested more than 100,000 samples annually since 2020, with about 20 percent found unsafe, substandard or improperly labeled. Nearly 8,000 food business licenses have been canceled over the past three years, according to the same official figures.

Mundhe, who is 51 years old, addressed compliance standards directly in an interview. «Those who try to not comply, they will face what is expected from the regulator,» Mundhe said in an interview. «You are dealing with the lives of people.» The commissioner added that his department responds to court observations and makes procedural improvements where possible after one High Court case resulted in a 500,000-rupee fine for continuing a suspension despite documented upgrades at an establishment.

In June the authority prohibited the longstanding practice of wrapping Mumbai’s popular vada pav in newspapers, a step that led some street vendors to adopt cleaner food-grade packaging instead. Observers have noted parallel changes among vendors, including more frequent oil replacement, substitution of natural colorings for artificial additives, and greater use of gloves and head coverings. The food safety department has framed these shifts as responses to sustained enforcement pressure.

Mundhe has drawn public attention for the campaign, including at a New Delhi event where attendees lined up for selfies and handshakes. Some supporters suggested Prime Minister Narendra Modi assign him a broader national role. The commissioner, who has experienced repeated transfers during a 21-year civil service career, rejected any celebrity framing.

«I don’t think I’m a celebrity. I’m just a food safety commissioner,» Mundhe said. The department continues to monitor a range of food businesses while addressing longstanding public concerns over hygiene in the city’s eateries. FSSAI national sampling drives have similarly identified non-compliance rates near 20 percent in recent years, aligning with the Maharashtra findings.

  • Kuwait Airways Rejects Claims of Converting Premium Bookings to Economy Class

Kuwait Airways Rejects Claims of Converting Premium Bookings to Economy Class

Kuwait Airways has categorically denied reports that confirmed reservations in its premium cabins were being altered to economy class without consent. The national carrier described the circulating rumors as false and lacking any foundation, according to Arab Times. It emphasized its dedication to maintaining the travel class originally selected by each passenger.

In a statement distributed on Sunday, the airline clarified that operational needs might occasionally necessitate modifications to a booking. Such instances would be managed strictly per approved protocols, with direct outreach to the passenger to explain the situation. Full preservation of passenger entitlements, such as applicable compensation aligned with global aviation norms, forms a core element of these protocols. The airline added that no financial costs would fall on passengers as a result of any such procedures.

Customers were directed to consult only the airline’s verified channels for booking and flight details to circumvent the spread of inaccurate information. Arab Times reported that the company said this clarification reflects its commitment to transparency, maintaining high service standards and protecting passenger rights.

The clarification arrives one day after Times Kuwait detailed complaints from multiple passengers who found their first or business class seats reassigned to economy upon checking their reservations. Those affected questioned the lack of prior notification and sought assurances regarding compensation and advance communication in future cases. The daily noted calls for clearer policies to safeguard paid services.

Regional security issues have recently forced Kuwait Airways to cancel or reschedule numerous flights, contributing to the operational pressures that may have sparked the downgrade speculation. In July 2026, the carrier rescheduled most services following temporary airspace closure linked to heightened US-Iran tensions, Gulf News reported. Similar disruptions persisted into August, affecting several regional carriers including Middle East Airlines on routes to Kuwait and Baghdad.

Kuwait Airways has significantly grown its schedule this year, operating around 728 weekly flights to 58 international destinations as of June, according to GCC Business News. This expansion occurs despite periodic challenges from geopolitical factors affecting Gulf aviation. The airline maintains policies on its website addressing seat selection and class changes for all fare types.

  • Interior Ministry Detains 36 Violators in Riggae Area Security Sweep

Interior Ministry Detains 36 Violators in Riggae Area Security Sweep

The Farwaniya Governorate Security Directorate led the operation to strengthen security presence and apprehend law violators in the residential district, according to details released by the Ministry of Interior. The ministry put the total at 36, with cases including 13 individuals with outstanding arrest warrants related to expired residency permits, 12 wanted for absconding, four with expired residency permits, three wanted in civil cases and one arrested for possessing and selling medication without a license. One vehicle was seized for judicial impoundment while all individuals underwent processing before referral to competent authorities.

All necessary legal and administrative procedures were completed against those detained during the Sunday campaign in Riggae, the ministry said. In its announcement the ministry confirmed that similar field security campaigns will continue across various areas of the country. The repeated operations aim to apprehend violators, reinforce security and stability and enforce public order in line with standing directives.

A comparable campaign by the Criminal Security Sector in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area on Aug. 6 led to the arrest of 48 residency and labor law violators after inspections of 120 commercial establishments, Kuwait Times reported. The ministry has conducted several such actions in recent weeks, including one that resulted in 56 arrests in a separate enforcement drive. These activities form part of systematic efforts to address compliance across governorates.

Official figures showed Kuwait recorded 11,700 new residency violations during 2025, an increase of 1,000 cases from the previous year. The overall number of residency violators fell to roughly 80,800 by the end of 2025, according to data cited in local reporting. Such statistics highlight the volume of monitoring required in routine enforcement operations.

Public Authority for Civil Information figures place Kuwait’s expatriate population at roughly 3.3 million, accounting for more than two-thirds of total residents. This demographic scale contributes to the frequency of residency and labor inspections conducted by interior ministry teams. The Riggae campaign reflects the pattern of focusing on districts with high concentrations of expatriate communities.

The ministry’s latest release on the operation listed the specific violation categories and noted that patrols covered key locations within the Riggae area. Follow-up coordination ensured seamless handover of cases to judicial and administrative bodies. Additional campaigns have simultaneously targeted other infractions including narcotics and traffic violations in different parts of the country.
