Arab Times reported that acting Belgorod Governor Alexander Shuvaev stated a Ukrainian missile struck the village of Koloskovo in the Valuysky municipal district of Russia’s Belgorod region. The strike killed six civilians and injured four others including a child. Shuvaev added that two of the injured declined hospitalization after treatment while the remaining victims including the child were transported to a local hospital.
In Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region Governor Ivan Fedorov said Russian forces carried out 1,217 strikes on 60 settlements during a 24-hour period. Those attacks killed two people and wounded three others according to the governor. The Arab Times article noted that neither side’s casualty claims could be independently verified.
A United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine assessment found that 1,396 civilians were killed and 7,978 injured in the country during the first six months of 2026. The UN data reflects a 37 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025. Long-range missiles and drones striking urban areas away from front lines accounted for a substantial share of those casualties according to the monitoring mission.
UN figures separately placed civilian deaths in Ukraine at 437 during July 2026 alone with 2,610 people injured. That monthly toll represented the highest number of civilians killed since May 2022 according to the monitoring mission’s report issued in August. Comparable rises have been documented on the Russian side of the border from Ukrainian strikes though verification remains limited.
The Belgorod region has faced repeated strikes from Ukrainian forces due to its location along the international boundary according to Russian regional authorities. Acting Governor Shuvaev’s update on the Koloskovo incident fits within a series of similar overnight attacks reported throughout the summer. Local officials have described such incidents as targeting populated civilian areas.
Zaporizhzhia Governor Fedorov’s daily briefings routinely document extensive Russian shelling and missile activity across eastern settlements. The latest 24-hour strike tally he provided aligns with patterns observed in UN compilations of regional incidents. International humanitarian monitors continue to track cumulative civilian impacts from the sustained exchanges.
