Games Workshop Launches 11th Edition of Warhammer 40,000 With Armageddon Boxed Set

Games Workshop has launched the 11th edition of Warhammer 40,000 this June with the Armageddon boxed set that introduces updated rules and new miniatures focused on Operation Imperator, a Space Marine coalition effort to relieve the beleaguered hive world from Ork invasion. The set includes a dedicated lore book available only in the launch box along with core game components and more than 50 plastic models split between Imperial and Ork forces according to details published on the official warhammer40000.com site and Warhammer Community platform. The timing aligns with sustained growth across the hobby sector.

The Armageddon boxed set contains the core rules, a Chapter Approved Mission Deck, a Dominatus Campaign Deck for narrative play and 17 datasheet cards outlining unit abilities. It also features a transfer sheet for applying icons and symbols to the models. Games Workshop described the contents as supporting both competitive matched play and story-driven campaigns in the grimdark universe.

Miniatures in the box include Space Marine units such as a Captain with relic shield, a Chaplain with jump pack, a Librarian, an Ancient, 10 Intercessors, five Vanguard Veterans, three Eradicators and a Land Speeder. The Ork side comprises a Warboss, Big Mek, Weirdboy, Painboy, 20 Boyz, 10 Gretchin and a Wartrakk. These models anchor the new edition’s visual refresh of the long-running Armageddon conflict.

The exclusive Operation Imperator hardcover book details a coalition of Space Marines from multiple chapters responding to a desperate plea from Commissar Yarrick amid the Fifth War for Armageddon, the Warhammer Community site reported. It expands on existing lore with new artwork, photography and accounts of key battles while remaining unavailable outside the launch box. Previous Armageddon campaigns have formed a cornerstone of Warhammer 40,000 storytelling since the game’s early years.

Fortune Business Insights data places the global board games market at USD 15.83 billion in 2025 with projections to reach USD 39.34 billion by 2034 at a compound annual growth rate of 10.7 percent. Warhammer 40,000 has maintained a leading position within the miniature wargaming segment of that market since its original release in 1987. The 11th edition follows a pattern of periodic rules overhauls that have helped sustain player engagement across four decades.

The new edition was first previewed at Adepticon in March 2026 with additional reveals and community updates issued in subsequent months leading to the June launch. Further supporting products including terrain sets, codex books and beginner-friendly releases are expected to follow according to the company’s announcements. Players will be able to utilise the mission and campaign decks immediately to explore the Operation Imperator storyline.
