The Office of Civil Defense reported that floods and landslides have claimed 12 lives with eight individuals still missing and 11 others injured. Assistant Secretary Laurence Mina provided the casualty update which attributed the deaths to landslides, rockslides, falling trees, electrocution and drowning. The figures were relayed through local media including The Philippine Daily Inquirer and published by Arab Times.
Nearly 586,000 people have been affected in nine regions and 33 provinces according to the civil defense office. Preemptive evacuations moved 4,866 residents to safety in Regions I, III, Calabarzon and Mimaropa. More than 32,800 people are displaced and many have taken shelter in evacuation centers or with relatives while relief and emergency operations continue.
The Office of Civil Defense stated that authorities have focused response efforts on search, rescue and aid distribution in the hardest hit areas. Assessments of damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure remain ongoing with full tallies pending further reports. The civil defense office has urged continued vigilance as conditions evolve.
PAGASA attributed the heavy rains to the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Kujira, known locally as Maymay, and Typhoon Dolphin. Kujira has since dissipated after being absorbed into the larger circulation of Dolphin, which remained outside the Philippine area of responsibility but sustained the monsoon flow. Warnings had highlighted risks of flooding in low-lying zones and landslides in mountainous terrain across Luzon and other vulnerable regions.
ReliefWeb reporting on the 2026 Pacific typhoon season noted that earlier combined effects from Tropical Cyclone Luis and the enhanced southwest monsoon had already impacted more than 41,000 people with dozens of roads and bridges affected. The NDRRMC has continued data collection and response coordination for the latest weather systems. Situation updates indicate that multiple provinces remain under close monitoring for additional rainfall.
The civil defense office has maintained coordination with local governments to support displaced families and restore services where possible. Pre-positioned supplies have aided initial relief while longer-term recovery planning begins in the affected provinces. Updates on the incident continue to be issued as new information emerges from field teams.
