U.S. Central Command announced completion of strikes on multiple Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran on September 1. The operation hit air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities and communications installations, according to a CENTCOM statement. The command said the strikes responded to recent IRGC attempts against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. service members deployed in the region.
American forces also struck two Iranian government-owned oil tankers during the wider operation, U.S. officials told reporters. A Greek maritime risk management firm reported two crude tankers hit by unknown projectiles the previous day, though no casualties or environmental damage were immediately confirmed from those incidents. Commercial vessel transits through the strategic waterway continued uninterrupted, CENTCOM noted in its update.
Iranian authorities said shrapnel from a U.S. missile struck a residential home in Kuhestak, in Sirik county of Hormozgan province, where a wedding celebration was underway. The Iranian Red Crescent reported that four people including a child were killed and more than 50 wounded in the incident. Hormozgan deputy governor Ahmad Nafisi told state television that five people including a child died with at least 68 others injured, updating an earlier toll of two dead.
CENTCOM spokesman Tim Hawkins addressed the casualty claims, which originated from Iranian state media. «We are aware of reports, which originated from Iranian state media. The U.S. military never targets civilians, unlike the IRGC,» Hawkins said. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaiel Baqaei condemned the strike on the wedding as part of a catalogue of atrocities and pledged a firm response.
The incidents occurred near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil trade that has seen repeated confrontations this year. U.S. Energy Information Administration data has long placed roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne petroleum transit through the waterway. The latest exchanges follow a pattern of retaliatory actions that began earlier in 2026 with Operation Epic Fury, according to Pentagon statements.
CENTCOM released video footage on social media depicting several of the targeted sites. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed its new aerospace defense system downed an American drone in response to the barrage. The developments come as both sides continue to trade accusations over aggression in the maritime domain, with no immediate signs of de-escalation.
