These sites include the QAZAQSTAN Athletics Sports Complex, Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Arts Palace, BEELINE ARENA National Tennis Centre and Barys Arena. Tickets are available through the tournament’s official partner Freedom Ticketon and the Freedom SuperApp.

Phygital International figures from the inaugural 2024 Games of the Future in Kazan, Russia, show that the event drew more than 2,000 athletes and over 260 teams across 21 disciplines. The 2025 edition concluded in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in December after six days of competition that included global participants vying for a multimillion-dollar prize pool, according to event organizers. The Astana Games continue to advance the phygital concept that fuses physical and digital competition formats into unified hybrid events.

  • Arbitration Court Schedules October Hearing for Senegal’s AFCON Title Dispute

Arbitration Court Schedules October Hearing for Senegal’s AFCON Title Dispute

The Court of Arbitration for Sport received Senegal’s appeal on March 25, 2026, from the Senegalese Football Federation seeking to set aside the CAF ruling that declared the team had forfeited the final and recorded a 3-0 result in Morocco’s favor. A CAS panel will examine submissions from all parties during the October 8 proceedings at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, according to a statement from the arbitration body. The hearing will take place behind closed doors and no date has been set for issuance of a verdict, CAS said. CAS director general Matthieu Reeb stated that the body is perfectly equipped to resolve this type of dispute with the assistance of expert and independent arbitrators.

Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 in extra time in the Africa Cup of Nations final on January 18, 2026, Reuters reported. A penalty awarded to Morocco in stoppage time prompted Senegal players to leave the pitch in protest, creating a delay of about 15 minutes before captain Sadio Mane persuaded the team to resume play, the Arab Times reported. Morocco forward Brahim Diaz then missed a Panenka-style penalty kick, according to accounts from multiple outlets including Al Jazeera.

The Confederation of African Football Appeals Board ruled in March 2026 that Senegal had forfeited the match under Articles 82 and 84 of the tournament regulations, a CAF statement said. Article 82 addresses a team leaving the field before the end of a match without referee authorization while Article 84 specifies a 3-0 forfeit result unless a more advantageous score already exists, CNN reported. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation had lodged an appeal after an initial disciplinary board decision rejected forfeiture and instead issued fines and bans.

CAF’s initial disciplinary measures following the final included combined fines exceeding $1 million along with sanctions on individuals from both teams, ESPN reported on March 25, 2026. The Senegalese federation challenged the subsequent reversal by the appeals board at CAS in a bid to restore the original match result and title, according to filings detailed by Reuters. The case also involves fan clashes during the tournament that led to the Moroccan king pardoning 18 Senegalese supporters in May, the Arab Times reported.

The episode has drawn widespread coverage across African and international media with The Guardian reporting on March 18, 2026, that a former CAF appeals committee member described the ruling as one that overstepped the body’s authority to alter an on-field referee decision. FIFA laws of the game establish that referee decisions connected to the result of a match are final, a sports law specialist noted in an April 2026 analysis for The Conversation. Morocco co-hosts the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, adding a layer of context to the dispute as detailed in reports from The Peninsula Qatar.

Senegal’s appeal seeks both reinstatement as champions and suspension of related timelines until full grounds for the CAF decision are provided, CAS documents show. The arbitration process typically involves extended periods for written submissions before any hearing occurs, Reuters noted in its coverage of the scheduling. No further procedural timelines have been released by the Court of Arbitration for Sport at this stage.

Topics included the media role in backing university athletics better outreach to news organizations proper management of media crises and overall professional practices for handling sports events and their coverage. The program also featured a photography exhibition of sports images captured by Abdulrahman Al-Ali the official photographer for the Kuwait Football Association.

Al-Sahli extended thanks to key university administrators at the workshop conclusion. He specifically recognized Acting Director of Sports Activities Dr. Tariq Dashti and Acting Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Salem Al-Shammari for arranging the platform that allowed exchange of knowledge alongside hands-on experience. Such programs according to Al-Sahli work to build professional media abilities nurture local talent and raise the standard of sports reporting while matching the university drive for ongoing improvement and high performance.

The workshop formed part of broader efforts at Kuwait University to link academic training with real-world sports administration. Al-Sahli emphasized during his presentation how consistent application of ethical guidelines supports both the athletes and the institutions involved in university-level competitions. His remarks aligned with the event focus on creating stronger ties between campus sports programs and professional media outlets operating across Kuwait.

Regional demand for quality sports content has expanded markedly in recent years. Mordor Intelligence projected that the Middle East sports media market will register an 18.18 percent compound annual growth rate through 2031 driven by state-backed investments in broadcasting rights and production facilities. The same outlook noted that sovereign funding has enabled construction of advanced studios and training programs for media professionals throughout the Gulf.

An Oliver Wyman analysis released in 2025 found that 85 percent of the Middle East population regularly follows sports content while only 30 percent take part in physical activity creating what the consultancy termed a 75 billion dollar opportunity for economic gains. The firm added that governments in the region have pledged 100 billion dollars in infrastructure spending by 2034 with the goal of lifting annual participation rates by 5 percent. These figures illustrate the rising importance of skilled sports journalism to sustain public interest and commercial growth.

Al-Sahli returned to the value of collaborative initiatives between universities and sports bodies in his closing comments. He pointed to the photography display as an example of how different media skills can be highlighted in educational settings. The combined elements of the July 23 workshop provided participants with both theoretical guidance and visual illustrations of professional output in the field.

Kuwait University Workshop Focuses on Professional Standards in Sports Media

Arab Times reported that Dr. Sattam Al-Sahli, media director at the Kuwait Football Association, presented a lecture at the «Professionalism in University Sports Media» workshop organized by Kuwait University’s Sports Activities Department. The sessions addressed the media’s function in advancing university sports, approaches to strengthening ties with media organizations, strategies for resolving media crises and the adoption of professional criteria for overseeing and reporting on athletic competitions. University representatives marked the occasion by honoring Al-Sahli for his sustained input into sports journalism development within Kuwait.

The Arab Times account noted that organizers arranged a sports photography exhibition to run parallel with the workshop, displaying images produced by Abdulrahman Al-Ali in his capacity as photographer for the Kuwait Football Association. Participants reviewed practical illustrations of sports media output that aligned with the theoretical elements raised during the lecture. The combined format drew students and staff involved in the institution’s athletic and communications programs.

According to the report, Al-Sahli extended thanks to Acting Director of Sports Activities Dr. Tariq Dashti and Acting Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Salem Al-Shammari for facilitating the exchange of expertise and real-world perspectives. He said such initiatives help strengthen professional media skills, develop national talent, and improve the quality of sports media coverage in line with Kuwait University’s commitment to excellence and continuous development. The recognition underscored Al-Sahli’s role in elevating standards across related fields.

Kuwait University’s media center reported that the institution placed fourth in the second GCC Sports Tournament for female university students staged in Qatar earlier in 2026. The standing reflects the expanding scope of university athletic programs that depend on proficient media documentation to reach wider audiences. Workshops of this nature therefore respond to an evident requirement for refined reporting competencies at the collegiate level.

A GCC Sport Sector Outlook assessment found that Kuwait’s sports events market is set to record a compound annual growth rate of 2.89 percent from 2023 to 2027, producing a projected value of $57.5 million. The outlook further places the number of users at 402,800 by 2027. This anticipated rise intensifies the necessity for trained sports media personnel equipped to maintain accuracy and ethical norms amid heightened activity.

The Kuwait Football Association’s statutes, first formalized in 1957 after an initial founding in 1952, list among its core aims the steady advancement of football via youth and development schemes across the country. Al-Sahli’s current position as media director for the association equips him to convey established practices in sports communications. The university event thereby connected governing responsibilities in sports with educational initiatives designed to ready upcoming journalists.

Kuwait Volleyball Squad Takes Fourth at West Asia Championship in Muscat

Dr Jaber Al-Merri, president of the Kuwait Volleyball Association, described the second West Asia Men’s Volleyball Championship as a valuable opportunity for the national team to regain competitive rhythm. The event came after a suspension of sporting activities in Kuwait due to regional developments, Al-Merri told Arab Times. He noted that the squad faced additional obstacles including injuries to several key players yet still entered the tournament determined to challenge for a podium position.

The championship concluded at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, Muscat with Kuwait falling 3-1 to Iraq in the third-place playoff. Host Oman claimed the title by defeating Qatar 3-0 in the final according to official results. Saudi Arabia finished fifth, Syria took sixth place and Lebanon ended in seventh, tournament organisers reported.

Al-Merri expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance even though it missed out on a medal. The president stated that the squad’s objective had been to reach the final and compete for the championship title. He added that the interruption to domestic competition had affected the players’ fitness and match readiness.

Kuwait’s next major assignment will be the Arab Championship scheduled for Jordan in October, Al-Merri said. Remaining fixtures from the 2025-26 domestic season are due to resume in September. The new domestic campaign is set to begin in October according to the association head.

Arab Times reported that the tournament allowed Kuwait to gain necessary competitive exposure after the prolonged halt in local leagues. Al-Merri emphasised the importance of such regional events for maintaining the team’s international readiness. Data from the Asian Volleyball Confederation shows Kuwait has regularly participated in similar continental tournaments to build toward larger events including Asian championships and qualifiers.
