Kuwait University Workshop Focuses on Professional Standards in Sports Media

Arab Times reported that Dr. Sattam Al-Sahli, media director at the Kuwait Football Association, presented a lecture at the «Professionalism in University Sports Media» workshop organized by Kuwait University’s Sports Activities Department. The sessions addressed the media’s function in advancing university sports, approaches to strengthening ties with media organizations, strategies for resolving media crises and the adoption of professional criteria for overseeing and reporting on athletic competitions. University representatives marked the occasion by honoring Al-Sahli for his sustained input into sports journalism development within Kuwait.

The Arab Times account noted that organizers arranged a sports photography exhibition to run parallel with the workshop, displaying images produced by Abdulrahman Al-Ali in his capacity as photographer for the Kuwait Football Association. Participants reviewed practical illustrations of sports media output that aligned with the theoretical elements raised during the lecture. The combined format drew students and staff involved in the institution’s athletic and communications programs.

According to the report, Al-Sahli extended thanks to Acting Director of Sports Activities Dr. Tariq Dashti and Acting Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Salem Al-Shammari for facilitating the exchange of expertise and real-world perspectives. He said such initiatives help strengthen professional media skills, develop national talent, and improve the quality of sports media coverage in line with Kuwait University’s commitment to excellence and continuous development. The recognition underscored Al-Sahli’s role in elevating standards across related fields.

Kuwait University’s media center reported that the institution placed fourth in the second GCC Sports Tournament for female university students staged in Qatar earlier in 2026. The standing reflects the expanding scope of university athletic programs that depend on proficient media documentation to reach wider audiences. Workshops of this nature therefore respond to an evident requirement for refined reporting competencies at the collegiate level.

A GCC Sport Sector Outlook assessment found that Kuwait’s sports events market is set to record a compound annual growth rate of 2.89 percent from 2023 to 2027, producing a projected value of $57.5 million. The outlook further places the number of users at 402,800 by 2027. This anticipated rise intensifies the necessity for trained sports media personnel equipped to maintain accuracy and ethical norms amid heightened activity.

The Kuwait Football Association’s statutes, first formalized in 1957 after an initial founding in 1952, list among its core aims the steady advancement of football via youth and development schemes across the country. Al-Sahli’s current position as media director for the association equips him to convey established practices in sports communications. The university event thereby connected governing responsibilities in sports with educational initiatives designed to ready upcoming journalists.
