Kuwait Fire Force Closes 28 Facilities in Shuwaikh for Safety Violations

The Public Fire Force conducted an inspection campaign in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area of the Capital Governorate on the evening of September 9. Major General Muhammad Yusuf Ahmad, Director of Prevention for the Capital Governorate, led the operation that targeted buildings and facilities failing to comply with fire safety and prevention requirements. Inspection teams identified several violations during the checks, resulting in the administrative closure of 28 facilities. Warnings were also issued to additional sites for not meeting the standards set by the Public Fire Force along with those of participating agencies.

According to a report published by Arab Times on September 10, the campaign involved cooperation with teams from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Commerce and the General Environment Authority. The inspections focused on ensuring adherence to regulations designed to protect lives and property in industrial zones. This action reflects a pattern of regular enforcement drives across Kuwait’s commercial and industrial sectors. The Public Fire Force has maintained that such campaigns form part of its routine oversight activities.

Times Kuwait reported that a similar inspection in the same area days earlier led to administrative closures and notices against 74 establishments for comparable safety shortcomings. The Kuwait Fire Force has carried out multiple such operations in Shuwaikh throughout 2026, including one in January that produced warnings for 44 buildings as detailed in separate coverage by the same outlet. These repeated campaigns indicate sustained regulatory pressure on facility operators to address deficiencies in emergency systems and compliance. Kuwait Times separately noted that the September drive followed the same multi-agency model used in prior months.

Kuwait’s civil defence authority put the death toll from the June 2024 Mangaf fire at 49 workers, an incident that accelerated broader government reviews of safety practices in both residential and industrial settings. The Mangaf blaze, which involved migrant worker housing, highlighted vulnerabilities that have since prompted intensified inspections in areas like Shuwaikh according to reports from The New York Times. Data from subsequent operations show authorities focusing on issues such as inadequate firefighting equipment and blocked exits across governorates. The Public Fire Force incorporated lessons from that event into its inspection protocols.

The Public Fire Force has documented violations in storage practices and alarm functionality during recent Shuwaikh drives, according to aggregated reports from Kuwait Times and Times Kuwait. Operators found non-compliant receive a period to rectify problems before facing permanent restrictions or further penalties. Industrial areas remain a priority because of the concentration of hazardous materials and high worker density. Officials have tracked these violations through standardized checklists applied uniformly during each campaign.

A December 2025 campaign in Shuwaikh and nearby Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh produced actions against 131 establishments, the Kuwait Fire Force said in a statement covered by Times Kuwait at the time. August 2025 inspections in the same zone resulted in 61 closures and 97 warnings, according to additional figures published by the outlet. The force continues to deploy teams for unannounced visits to ensure ongoing adherence to updated safety codes across all industrial districts.
